NTHGA meeting minutes October 12, /2000

Old business:
Corine Albright nomination mailed to USHGA by Kelly Russell for BOD
Dave Broyles going to BOD and offered to take the nominations to BOD.
Greg nominates Rio Grande Soaring Assn. For chapter/ club of the year.
New Business:
Red Bull has done a film about hang gliding / paragliding for TV for USA channel at 9 am this Saturday .
Ken Tolin discussed the new USHGA sponsored life / disability insurance on the organization web site. It is only in effect while you are flying. So if your dying… go flying … with insurance. Leave everyone some beer money.
Discussion of First Air class. Tre wants to do a NTHGA sponsored class with the Red Cross in December. Dave reports Dallas Red Cross has classes regularity and he signed up for one on one day's notice. Several expressed interest.
Greg discussed a web site / chat room for flying intentions to increase club members flying. Voice mail site was also discussed. IT was decided that we would use the NTHGA reflector to communicate our flying intentions.
Greg questioned about if we like the present meeting site or move to a restaurant. Curtis voted to stay here. Food was discussed.
Andy discussed lower membership turnout to meetings. Discussions about decreasing the business and increasing the fun times. A kitchen timer to limit discussions will be used in future.
Dave Broyles showed a double release towing hookup from Finland. You launch with the rope over the control bar and then release that and have a second line under the control bar that continues the tow at higher angle of attacks and the line not touching a control bar. General discussion of pro's and con's of general towing bridles.
Discussion of money; motion to use $$ for safety training topics: sponsor first aid clinic; parachute clinic;

How to get better faster.
Judging launch cycles.
Signs of thermals (triggers)
Speed to fly
Emergency procedures.
