- Minutes read and accepted from December meeting.
Treasurer report: $580 in account. Dues due $20 /year or $25 with XC contest included.
3. Old Business:
Last year's XC contest was won by Pete Hammer with 31 miles from Pilot Point to Lake Texoma.
4. Greg Chastain motioned and the members accepted by vote for the NTHGA to put on the Regionals this year. Initial plans call for it to be a tow meet at Hearne Airport on June 16-18, (Friday - Sunday) 2000. Costs have been budgeted to be $40 for pre-registration and $50 on the spot signup. Money will include the contest, trophies, T-shirt, Saturday evening cookout. Tows are on the individual.
The contest will have a 2 class system of Open class and Leisure Class. The Open class will require GPS instrumentation, photo turn points and times. Leisure Class will go on the honor system.
Retrieval and tows will be the individual pilot's responsibility. We hope to have any and all tugs for aerotowing and all vehicle mounted winches in the region invited.
The following positions are open for volunteers: Meet Director (Greg said he would do this if no one else would.), Safety Director, Advertising / Pilot Recruiting/ Registration; Fund Raising,
Positions already filled include: John Russell volunteered to do the Saturday evening barbecue at a location yet to be determined. Trophies / T-shirt will be done by Pete Hammer. Pilot Info Packets will be done by Kelly Russell.
5. The L/D contest originally set for this weekend ( 1/15/2000 ) has been postponed until January 29, 2000 due to weather and working schedules.
6. New Business:
- Greg wants to start a Technical Discussion time in each meeting to share knowledge and experience. Some one will start a discussion and everyone will add in their experience base to educate and disseminate information. Pete volunteered to be first with Weather as the subject.
- Dave Broyles is planning on having the parachute clinic one of the last weekends of Feb.
- NTHGA XC contest was discussed. Hearne has been added to the list of approved sites for launching. Concern was raised about the expected influx of professional or semi-pro XC pilots to that area and it was decided to include the requirement of attending at least 2 monthly NTHGA meetings in addition to the $25 membership / XC contest fee. This will keep it a club contest. It was noted that there is already a Texas wide contest in the works for everyone to enter.
7. Entertainment: VHS tape on Hang Gliding from the Discovery Channel "SkyBound" Series.
8. Meeting Adjourned at 9:15
